Established 2015
Lonely Shore is a side project for husband and wife Liam and Holii Carmody.
Liam has worked in the industry for over 20 years, starting in the South West, and then travelling regularly for vintages abroad. He studied viticulture and oenology and is an AWAC graduate. Lonely Shore began out of nostalgia for time spent in California and a passion for Pinot Noir.
Lonely Shore was named after a novel written by Liam's Grandmother Freda Vines in the 70's.
Liam has a full time winemaking role at Forest Hill in Denmark, and Holii is a wedding film maker for Holii & Ash
Vineyard & Winemaking
Part of the journey to this point included finding and building a trusting relationship with a grower who embodied their vision in the vineyard. DeiTos vineyard is located on an elevated clearing in the Middlesex subregion 6km south-east of the town of Manjimup. The family property of Fabio & Katrina Deitos, established in 1996, the vineyard is planted east-west and is dry farmed on a complex mix of karri and jarrah loams over deep gravels. Fabio uses a minimal intervention farming practice.
Fruit is handpicked, cold soaked and fermented in two parcels. When stems are ripe a whole bunch component is fermented separately which is roughly 10% of the blend. It is then basket pressed and gravity movement is used as much as possible. It spends 8 months in French oak (10% new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The growing degree day data shows that the 2023 season was considerably cooler than the previous year. Early winter rainfall saw good soil moisture and vine vigour leading into spring and the mild summer.
Moderate yields with increased berry and bunch size were a defining feature of the vintage. The resulting wine is a vibrant, high toned and clear expression of the site.

Vivid deep magenta. Black cherry, vanilla pod and rose perfume leap from the glass. Mouth filling satsuma plum, blue fruits and a flicker of aniseed and orange peel. Distinct graphite tannin and gently sappy acidity provide length to the finish.
